About this role

Over a 10-year horizon, a we-conomy of 55 people will see significant membership change. Without a clear, documented, fair process for how people enter and exit — including what they owe to and are owed by the collective — every transition becomes a crisis. This role also maintains the collective's skills inventory: knowing what expertise is held by which members, and identifying emerging gaps.

Key processes

Prospective member vetting

Prospective members: complete a written application; have an interview with at least two role-holders; visit for a trial period of 1–4 weeks; participate in a trial membership of 3–6 months before full membership rights vest.

Trial membership

Trial members contribute labor at the same level as full members. They attend community meetings but may not vote on major decisions.

Membership agreement

Every full member signs a membership agreement covering: rights (housing, food, community membership), obligations (labor contribution, financial contribution, conduct standards), exit terms (notice period, equity distribution), and dispute resolution process.

Skills inventory

Maintain a living document of all members' skills and certifications against the 24-role framework. Update annually and upon any membership change.

Member exit

Provide a clear exit process: notice period (typically 60–90 days), equity distribution per the membership agreement, transition of role responsibilities, farewell ceremony.

Critical warnings

!

Never rush onboarding because you need labor. A poorly-matched member who leaves after 6 months creates more disruption than a temporary labor gap.

!

Exit terms must be agreed before anyone joins, not at the moment of departure.
